[Pearlescent ink and water color painted on a Plein air sketch] For An: Desert rain; 2008

This was one of the only watercolors I have done while in the field as a geologist. Typically when I am in the field I focus on being in the field, and rarely have the time to do a good sketch which usually takes about an hour +. While the sun is up, its more important to cover ground taking observations than drawing pretty pictures. This sketch is the exception in that it was a day off, so I managed to get one done.

This was drawn in the White Mountains outside of Bishop at the UCLA Geology Summer Field Camp. As a cap stone class, geologists typically go out for summer field camps to hone their skills one last time before graduation from 3 weeks to 3 months (for some schools). UCLA goes out for 3+ weeks typically in the the Owen's Valley region, and I've done it as both a student and as an instructor. Amazing experience both times. I made it for An, the professor of the class who taught me so much. Love you An!
